ALTHAY PÁEZ
ALTHAY PÁEZ es un timplista de la isla de Fuerteventura con una endiablada técnica de interpretación. Entre sus coetáneos es reconocido como un virtuoso del instrumento canario, tanto por sus capacidades técnicas como por el estado anímico al que lleva a su instrumento en sus interpretaciones en directo. En él se reúnen acentos muy potentes relacionados con la tradición y, sin embargo, con un ánimo de contemporaneidad que lo hace singular y extraordinario en el panorama de las músicas instrumentales en Canarias.
A pesar de haber cultivado esas virtudes desde muy joven en numerosos conciertos en directo dentro y fuera de sus islas natales y en numerosas colaboraciones con otros artistas, no es hasta hoy que se enfrenta a un proyecto propio concebido desde una propuesta conceptual que no se había realizado hasta ahora en nuestro país.
El diálogo que nos propone se titula “SOSTIENE PEREIRA”, un repertorio que hace referencia a su primer disco, grabado entre Lisboa y Canarias en los primeros meses de este año teniendo como eje vertebrador la relectura con el timple de composiciones del multi-instrumentista, compositor y productor luso Julio Pereira, renovador del cavaquinho portugués y prestigiosa figura de la Word Music. Un disco producido al alimón por el propio Pereira y por Manuel González, fundador y líder de Mestisay.
Nuestro timplista se presenta con una banda conformada por algunos de los mejores músicos de raíz de Canarias en una apuesta que busca reivindicar al timple en sonidos que reafirmen su identidad atlántica.
ALTHAY PÁEZ is a timple player from the island of Fuerteventura with a devilish technique of interpretation. Among his contemporaries he is recognised as a virtuoso of the Canarian instrument, both for his technical capabilities and for the mood in which he commands his instrument during live performances. He brings together very powerful accents related to tradition with a spirit of contemporaneity that makes them unique and extraordinary in the panorama of instrumental music of the Canary Islands.
Despite having cultivated these virtues from a very young age in numerous live concerts on and off his home islands and in numerous collaborations with other artists, it is not until today that he faces his own project conceived from a conceptual proposal that up until now, hadn't been done in our country.
The dialogue he proposes to us is titled " SOSTIENE PEREIRA” a repertoire that refers to his first album, recorded between Lisbon and the Canary Islands in the first months of this year having as his source of inspiration the reworking of compositions for the timple of the multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Luso Julio Pereira, renovator of the Portuguese cavaquinho and prestigious figure of Word Music. A record produced by alimón by Pereira himself and by Manuel González, founder and leader of Mestisay.
Our timplist is presented with a band made up of some of the best root musicians of the Canary Islands with a goal to deliver the timple through sounds that reaffirm its Atlantic identity.
